Recognising the Battle Doesn't Mean Winning It
Mounjaro changed the physical side of eating. It didn't install willpower - it just showed me how much of it I'd been using all along.
This is something I think is easy to miss when people talk about weight-loss medication.
It would be tempting to write:
Mounjaro stopped me being hungry, so I stopped eating so much and everything became easy.
That’s not my experience.
The medication has changed the physical side of eating.
It has given me a much better chance of recognising when I’ve had enough.
But the psychological side is still there, and sometimes the effort required to say no to something is surprisingly large, even when I know perfectly well that I’m not hungry.
That’s probably the hardest part of the whole thing.
I’m not discovering that I have no self-control.
I’m discovering just how much self-control I’ve been asking myself to use.
