Then 5 mg happened

It hasn’t all been positive.

When I increased to 5 mg, my digestive system decided that this arrangement wasn’t working for it.

There was:

  • severe burping
  • flatulence
  • vomiting
  • diarrhoea
  • stomach cramps
  • spectacular gut churning
  • and what I can only describe as bum rain

At times it felt less like a digestive system and more like an industrial waste-treatment facility.

It was unpleasant enough that I stopped taking Mounjaro for a couple of weeks.

The serious part was the dehydration.

Vomiting and diarrhoea put additional stress on kidneys that were already not perfect, so this wasn’t something I could simply laugh off as an annoying side effect.

I still get digestive side effects.

Sometimes my stomach sounds like someone has dropped an effervescent tablet into it.

There is gurgling.

There is churning.

There is gas.

There are occasionally some truly impressive internal sound effects.

And sometimes I wonder whether the duvet is going to survive the night.

But it’s nowhere near the 5 mg experience.

For me, that matters more than getting to a higher dose simply because a higher dose exists.

I don’t need the medication to make me feel spectacularly ill.

I need it to give me enough help that I can actually change how I eat.
